One of the Energy of Youth most outstanding alumni  – 2012 winner  Dmitry Lopatin introduced his innovative product to potential investors.  At The Open Innovations forum that opened today in Moscow the young scientist presented his project of flexible solar panels, which can become a new stage in the development of alternative energy.

The Open Innovations international forum and technology show opened on October 28. Hundreds of experts gathered at the VDNH (The Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) to discuss how new technologies are changing our habitat and what is the  impact on education, entertainment, work and health spheres. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Serbia Alexander Vucic, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and others visited forum on its first day. Giving a speech at the plenary session of the forum, Dmitry Medvedev stated that there is no other alternative for Russia but to continue its innovative development: “Progress cannot be stopped.  Supportive policy of innovative growth will be maintained, and this is the mission  of the state. We need to integrate into the global technology world “.

The team of the Global Energy Non-Profit Partnership led by the President Igor Lobovsky is also actively participating in the event. The presentation of a young scientist from Krasnodar Dmitry Lopatin was a headliner of the first day of the forum. The solar panels, which brought him a grant under the “Energy of Youth” program back in 2012, are surprisingly easy to produce – they can be simply printed out. This product is based on a rare organometallic sompound – perovskite. 3D-structure and optical metamaterials always direct the light perpendicularly to the panel, as a result solar panels work effectively even under the slanting sunlight.

The efficiency index is striking: Lopatin panels collect up to 43% more energy compared to other technologies – even on cloudy autumn days. The lifetime of these solar panels is 6 years, light absorption is 87%. One square meter produces 100-150 W of energy – 80 watts on the average per day! Now Dmitry is ready to begin a small-scale production of his solar batteries and the production cost is very small  – only $15-20 for a square meter while average retail is $130. Dmitry has already received offers of cooperation from US, Kazakhstan, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, France, South Africa, Czech Republic, Greece, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Burkina Faso, and Peru. Investors are attracted by the good economic indicators of the project: according to Dmitry, the production line he is working on right now, has the capacity of 30 square meters per day. So these solar panels produced will bring 70000 $ per month.
