On March 27th one of the most important events in energy field took place in Moscow. During the official press conference at ITAR TASS Press Centre Chairman of Global Energy International Award Committee Mr. Rodney John Allam announced the names of the Global Energy Prize laureates 2014. Professor Lars Gunnar Larsson (Sweden) and academician Ashot Arakelovich Sarkisov (Russia) have become the Global Energy Prize Laureates 2014. The scientists are awarded for an outstanding contribution to nuclear safety enhancement and nuclear facility decommissioning.
The list of speakers at the press conference included Chairman of the Global Energy International Award Committee Rodney John Allam (Great Britain); Nikolay Laverov , Chairman of the Global Energy Board of Trustees, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Board of Directors of OJSC “Rosneft”; Vyacheslav Nikiforov – Deputy Director General of OJSC “Surgutneftegaz”- member of “Global Energy” Non-Profit Partnership; Pavel Korsunov – Deputy Chairman of the Board of OJSC «FGC UES»”- member of “Global Energy” Non-Profit Partnership. Press conference was moderated by Igor Lobovskiy, President of “Global Energy” Non-Profit Partnership.
The laureates were informed about their award during a live telephone call. They shared their emotions and thoughts with the audience at the press conference. Mr. Sarkisov noted that he views the award as a significant acknowledgement of his work, whereas Mr. Larsson said that his heart is filled with pride, thankfulness and happiness.
The prize comes with a total USD 1.1 million (RUB 33 million) endowment to help laureates fund future research projects. It is the largest energy research grant of its kind in the world. The laureates will be awarded on May 23 in Saint Petersburg in the framework of Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
