Frede Blaabjerg: extensive introduction of renewables will continue

The scenario of large-scale introduction of renewable energy sources will continue, said Danish Professor and Global Energy Prize laureate Frede Blaabjerg during his online lecture to students of the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”.
“Solar power is fully competitive with fossil today, and its costs continue to fall. In 10 years’ time, renewable energy sources will be 100% competitive. Power electronics is enabling the technology,” Blaabjerg said.

The oil era is coming to a close

BP’s annual Energy Outlook exploring different scenarios for the global energy system leading up to 2050 says that world oil demand has already peaked and is unlikely to grow again over the next 30 years. Even the most optimistic assumptions would have demand for oil on a plateau, with no further growth.
