Nikolay Kudryavtsev (Russia)

The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Rector at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

A great scholar of wide profile for electrophysics and thermophysics. Since June 1997 he serves as rector at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. In 2007 he was elected to Schlumberger Board of Directors. Professor Kudryavtsev is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2001 he was awarded the title of Laureate of the Russian Federation Council of Ministers Prize in the field of science. In 1991 he became one of the founders of JSC Laboratory of Impulse Technology at MIPT, created to promote UV water disinfection systems in the region. Led the development of these systems. In 1994 he was elected to the position of Director General of JSC “Phonon” of the Ministry of Defense Industry, one of the main developers of piezotechnical products in the country. Participated in the restructuring of the enterprise`s organization. His scientific developments are related to the study of heat transfer to the surfaces of solids streamlined by hypersonic flows in relation to braking in planetary atmospheres, including for the standard thermal protection of the spacecraft “Buran”; electrophysical phenomena in high-speed ionization waves and their use for pumping radiation sources and lasers; development of industrial disinfection systems of large volumes (50-1000 000 cubic meters per day) of natural, waste and circulating water, UV radiation as an alternative to chlorination. Creation of element base: powerful amalgam mercury lamps of low pressure and irradiation chambers. Author of more than 110 scientific papers, 9 monographs (co-authored), has 10 patents.
