Gazprom reduced greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 by 16 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent – or by 14 % compared to the previous year’s figure, the company announced.

The company said it achieved this result by using advanced gas conservation technologies in repair operations. These included the use of mobile compressor stations, optimising energy resource use and performing renovations and upgrades at compressor stations.

Another key task undertaken by Gazprom was the reduction of methane emissions across the entire production chain. The Company carried out regular in-line inspections of gas pipelines, examined their technical condition, and monitored methane emissions through the use of helicopters and drones with laser scanners.

Gazprom is acting in according with its programme for environmental sustainability and its energy saving and energy efficiency programme for 2020-2022.     Implementing that programme enabled the company to save 3.27 billion cu.m. of natural gas, 305.9 million kWh of electricity, and 251,920 Gcal of thermal energy – surpassing the planned target by 8 %. The overall value of the saved fuel and energy resources totalled 13.77 billion roubles ($179.56 million).
