“I am happy to announce that this very morning, two and a half hours ago, work was successfully completed on laying the first branch of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline,” Putin told a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The president said work on laying the second branch of Nord Stream 2 could be completed over the next two months.
“The section of the Russian supply line sending gas through to the Slavyanskaya compressor station was also completed this week, making the line ready,” Putin told the gathering.
“The compressor station, one of the most powerful in the world, is the starting point for dispatching gas through the pipeline. Gas is now moving to Slavyanskaya. Gazprom is therefore now ready to send gas through Nord Stream 2.”
The president emphasised that Nord Stream 2 was a project marked by top efficiency, fully complying with the most stringent environmental standards and technical requirements.
