Traditional energy needed for rising energy demand – Russian Deputy PM Novak
2021-04-12 at 18.03.59
World-wide energy consumption is certain to rise in the future and cannot be covered strictly by renewable sources, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said

“Prominent analysts agree that world energy consumption will rise and that it simply will not be possible to cover that new demand without traditional energy resources,” Novak wrote in a column in the magazine and website Energy Policy

Artificial limiting measures in the traditional sectors of the fuel and energy complex could reduce profitability and the sector’s attractiveness for investors and as a result a new threat will emerge to the reliability of energy supply.

“We are therefore certain that at every stage of the energy transition it is vital to continue providing people and the economy with uninterrupted supplies of energy, supplies at a reasonable price for consumers,” Novak said.

“Introducing a carbon tax cannot become an instrument for unfair competition and put the continent’s energy security under threat.”
