Alexey Miller, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Andrey Akimov, board member, were elected as members of the new committee.
Issues falling under the committee’s jurisdiction include drafting recommendations on defining the spheres of activity of the Gazprom Group in the field of sustainable development, as well as assessing the implementation of the group’s sustainable development policy.
Gazprom had previously announced that it planned by May 2022 to draft scenarios of sustainable development by 2050. One of those scenarios called for the company to achieve carbon-neutral status.
“Gazprom’s scenarios of sustainable development by 2050 are being elaborated on the basis of political, economic and technological trends of the development of world energy and in conditions where the climate factor has taken on heightened importance,” Oleg Aksyutin, Deputy Head of Gazprom’s Management Committee and a head of department, said in a statement last month.
“And within the framework of each of the scenarios under consideration, concrete climate goals will be set for the company. One of those scenarios will include a carbon-neutral variant.”
