Small modular reactors (SMRs) will not compete with large nuclear power stations and cannot replace them, but will occupy their own niche on world energy markets, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Russian state nuclear power company Rosatom, told a meeting at Expo 2020 in Dubai moderated by Global Energy President Sergey Brilev.

This technology has been incorporated in the 220 KW Nagorny and Amga switching points built by Russian grid operator Rosseti to connect compressor stations from the “Power of Siberia” gas pipeline to the single national electricity grid. The project was completed jointly with the system operator.
