Rwanda to build an HPP cascade for alleviation of energy shortages

In May 2022, the Rwanda government launched construction of 43.5 MW Hydropower Plant (HPP) Nyabarongo-2 to be located on the border between the country’s southern and northern provinces. The $214 million project will be part of the cascade that will also include the Butamwa (40 MW) and the Juru (40 MW) pump storage power plants and the 10.5 MW HPP at Sake Lake.

Vietnam plans to build its first electrolysis facilities

Vietnamese company TGS Green Hydrogen plans to start construction of the country’s first green hydrogen production site with the capacity of 24,000 tons per year, in June 2022. The 19.5 trillion dong ($840 million) project will also focus on the annual production of 150,000 tons of ammonia and 195,000 tons of nitrogen. As says the Energy World, an industry publication, citing the Vietnamese government, the enterprise trial run is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.

A bottle-sized wind turbine

Canadian company Aurea Technologies has raised over $160,000 on the startup platform Kickstarter for production of the Shine mini wind turbine, reports the Singularity Hub, an online publication. The length of a 40-watt unit is 35 cm and its weight – 1.3 kg. The device equipped with the blades, each 60 cm in diameter, and outwardly resembling a litre plastic bottle, will work on the 91.4 high cm mounts.

Electricity from blinds

LC Dynamics, a South African startup, founded in 2021 by entrepreneur Lisa von Benecke is going to launch in December production of the blinds able to generate electricity thanks to the photovoltaic cells embedded in lamellas. The cost of the blinds equipped with lithium-ion batteries, LED lighting and DC outlets for recharging the devices will be 5,000 South African rands ($320).
