His professional life is inextricably linked with the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (now – CIAM), where he began to work in 1951 after graduation (with honours) from the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI). Starting his career path at CIAM as an engineer, twenty years later he became its first Deputy Head (1971-1973). Then his professional life continued at the Moscow Research and Production Association (MNPO) Soyuz where he was Chief Designer and Director General from 1973 to 1987. Even during that period of time, O.N. Favorsky did not leave the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) where he had lectured since 1956, and was the Head of the Department of automation design of motors since 1971. The last career stage of Oleg Favorsky was at CIAM where he returned in 1987, was Deputy Head (Director General) until 2008 and worked as an Advisor to Director General until 2022.

The main area of Oleg Favorsky’s scientific interests was thermal and physical-chemical processes in gas turbine engines, and at the ground-based and space power plants. Five engines of three different types for aircraft and cruise missiles were developed under his leadership at MNPO Soyuz. Fine-tuning of the engine for high flight speeds, which subsequently set six world records, was carried out under the leadership of O.N. Favorsky.

Being the author of over two hundred publications, seven monographs and sixty inventions, Oleg Favorsky had a recognised authority in the scientific community: 1981 – he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (AS) at the Department of Physical and Chemical Problems of Energy, 1990 – an academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and 2004 – the Head of the Energy Section of the RAS. In 2008 he was awarded the Global Energy Prize for his research in applied gas dynamics and creation of highly efficient parts and gas pumping stations. Among his other awards are such as the State Prize of the Russian Federation, the Badge of Honor and the Order of Merit for Country, 4th degree.

Global Energy Association expresses its condolences to the relatives and friends of Oleg Favorsky.
