India doubles capacity of its floating solar power plants in the country’s south

India’s electricity company NTPC has completed commissioning of a 100 MW floating solar power plant (SPP) in the southern state of Telangana. The project is supposed to save 4.4 Mt CO2 over its life cycle, which is comparable to annual emissions in Egypt (Africa’s fifth largest oil producer) from the associated petroleum gas flaring (4.7 Mt CO2, according to the BP estimates for 2021).

Rystad Energy: recoverable oil reserves have decreased by 9%

The global recoverable oil reserves decreased by 9% (down to 1,572 billion barrels against 1,725 billion a year earlier) by the end of 2021 according to the Rystad Energy data. The 153-billion-barrel decrease results from the transfer of 30 billion barrels to the category of production assets and the reduction of undiscovered resources, including due to restrictions on exploration on federal lands in the United States.
