Chinese ship-owner Wah Kwong together with French certification company Bureau Veritas and Qiyao Environ Tec, a subsidiary of the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute, have signed an agreement on conduct of a feasibility study on the installation of CO2 capture units on shipping vessels.

Uganda to put the largest East Africa’s dam into operation

According to the Construction Review Online, an industry publication, China’s Sino Hydro Company has completed 99 % of the construction of Uganda’s 600 MW Karuma Hydro Power Plant (HPP). The dam, which is 20 metres high and 312 metres long, will be the largest in East Africa. The plant reservoir, which is estimated at 79.9 million cubic metres, covers 2,700 hectares

Russian scientists have discovered a mineral to create super-capacity batteries

The scientists from St. Petersburg State University and the Kola Science Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) have discovered a new mineral at the Yakut Kester deposit, which can become the basis for creating super-capacity batteries. The mineral is named sergeismirnovite in honour of Sergei Sergeevich Smirnov (1895‒1947), a well-known geologist and a prominent specialist in mineralogy of ore deposits.
