Australia will reduce emissions by building a new pumped storage hydro plant (PSHP)

The Bechtel Company, which specializes in engineering solutions for renewable energy, was selected as a design firm for the pumped storage hydro plant (PSHP) Big-T, which will be placed by the Lake Cressbrook in the State of Queensland in the east of Australia. The PSHP rated at 400 megawatts will be equipped with the pumped storage energy system rated at 200 MW, as reported by industrial publication Energy Storage.

Pumpkin-molecule as a catalyst for hydrogen production

Scientists of the Catalysis Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) and the Inorganic Chemistry Institute of SB RAS have researched the process of hydrogen production from formic acid with application of a catalyst containing gold, carbon nanotubes, and cucurbituril – an organic compound, which due to its molecule shape is called pumpkin. The new catalyst permitted to reduce reaction temperature by 110 degrees C and reach selectivity of hydrogen formation up to 99.5%. The research results were published in the Materials Today Energy magazine.
