The first molten salt reactor might appear in Russia by late 2030-ies – early 2040-ies.

One of the fundamental unresolved problems of the modern nuclear industry is recycling nuclear waste. One option for the substantial reduction of generation of such waste can be construction and operation of the molten salt reactors for afterburning of minor actinides. The first such reactor in Russia can be constructed by late 2030-ies – early 2040-ies, reported Deputy General Director of Science and Innovation LLC with the Corporation Rosatom Alexey Dub in an interview to the corporate publication Strana Rosatom (Country Rosatom).

Hydrogen from wastewater: a discovery of Russian scientists

The scientists from the Federal Research Centre (FRC) of Biotechnology under RAS have studied bacteria, which were found in a reactor for treatment of town wastewater. The microorganisms turned out to be the representatives of a new bacteria strain Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum – SP-H2.
