“I want to thank Global Energy for this high award. Science is a long road, and the main thing here is not titles, degrees and positions, but the joy of a new discovery any researcher experiences. This is the feeling sustaining any scientist’s inner fire at all stages of their career. I hope future generations of scientists will also experience the joy of innovations in hydropower,” Yury Vasiliev’s representatives said on his behalf.
“Hydropower remains the largest RES sector in Russia providing almost a fifth of the country’s electricity needs. At the same time, the industry has received a new impetus for development in recent years – both through construction of small hydropower plants in the North Caucasus, and due to energy transition creating additional demand for clean energy. Therefore, the results of Yury Vasiliev’s research are sure to be relevant for a long time to come,” said Sergey Brilev, President of the Global Energy Association.
Vasiliev is the author of over 270 scientific works, including 19 books and textbooks. As the founder of a scientific school in the renewable energy sources (RES), Vasiliev has developed mathematical models for calculating the water supply paths of hydropower plants, and substantiating the methodology of the automated systems for designing hydro and pumped storage power plants (HPPs; PSPPs). The technical solutions proposed by Yury Vasiliev were used in the construction of the Krasnoyarsk HPP, the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, the Chirkei HPP and a number of other hydropower plants. In 1983-2003, Yury Vasiliev was SPbPU Rector, the scientific advisor of which he still remains to this day.
