Crystals for artificial photosynthesis: innovation for hydrogen production

Russian scientists have created stable crystals with unique atom packaging patterns for metals, sulfur and selenium (a brittle and shiny silverly metalloid). New crystals can be used as promoter of artificial photosynthesis in hydrogen production. The findings were published in the Journal of Applied Crystallography, a professional periodical of the International Union of Crystallography.

Upright solar panels: solution for snowbound territories

Luxor Solar KK, daughter company of Luxor Solar, a German solar module manufacturer, has built an 8.3 kilowatt (kW) vertical photovoltaic system at the site belonging to a Japanese rice growing and processing company Eco Rice Niigata in Niigata Prefecture on Japan’s west coast. The vertical structure will facilitate power generation during the winter season, when snow depth reaches two to three metres in Niigata.

Polymer for battery protection: solution developed by Russian scientists

Scientists from the Institute of Chemistry at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) have synthesised a polymer that is sensitive to temperature and stress. These properties enable the use of the new polymer as a protective coating for lithium-ion batteries. The findings were published in the Batteries Magazine, a professional periodical of the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI).
