In compliance with the Association rules, self-nomination is prohibited. The initiation may come from scientists, researchers and representatives of academic organisations ready to provide detailed justifications for the candidate’s nomination, as well as the list of their key merits and scientific works.
The receipt of applications is the first stage of the nomination cycle. The nominations received will be submitted to independent experts for evaluation according to the fixed set of criteria, including scientific novelty and practical value. The fifteen entries (five in each category) receiving the highest average score will be shortlisted, and an independent International Award Committee led by Rae Kwon Chung, a Nobel laureate will select the laureates.
“The previous nomination cycle showed a significant expansion of the geography of the Prize applications. Rightfully proud of the many applications for the Prize from the Global North, we look forward to further increasing the representation of the developing world in the new cycle. This includes Latin America, still remaining the world leader in terms of the hydropower share of in the power generation mix, Africa – a major producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), Asia – being a locomotive for fossil fuel demand, and the Middle East – preserving its key positions in the hydrocarbon market,” said Sergey Brilev, the Global Energy Association President.
The announcement ceremony of the laureates is to take place in July 2023, and the award ceremony will take place in Moscow in October, as part of the Russian Energy Week international forum.
