South America can increase gas generation capacity by almost 70%, according to the Global Energy Monitor. There are currently 146 gas-fired power plants operating in the region with a total capacity of 60.4 GW and 13 facilities with 5.1 GW are under construction. Moreover, 30 plants with 35.7 GW are at the pre-investment stage.

India sets up four projects for floating SPPs totaling 2 GW

India’s state-owned Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is planning to build four floating solar power plants (SPPs) at its Konar, Maithon, Panchet and Tilaiya dams in the eastern state of Jharkhand. The aggregate capacity of the floating SPPs will total 2 gigawatts (GW), which is commensurate with the overall output of Hungary’s operating SPPs (2.1 GW according to the International Renewable Energy Agency).
