Russian scientists propose new method of detecting harmful gases

Scientists from the Faculty of Physics of ITMO University and North Ossetian State University named after K.L. Khetagurov have proposed a new method of detecting gaseous hydrogen halides, which are toxic to humans. The solution is based on perovskite nanolasers. The results of the study have been published in the journal ACS Nano issued by the American Chemical Society.

Bellingshausen Station turned 55!

Bellingshausen Station, the northernmost and warmest Russian station in Antarctica, is celebrating its 55th anniversary. Today, the station operates in one of the most populous areas of Antarctica: it is located in the immediate vicinity of Chile’s Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva with the Marsh airstrip, China’s Great Wall Station and Uruguay’s Artigas Base, with the stations of South Korea, Brazil, Poland, Argentina and Peru operating a little farther away.

Portugal to build 990 MW floating WPP

IberBlue Wind has announced its plans to build a floating wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 990 megawatts (MW) 30–50 kilometres off the coast of the Figueira da Foz municipality in central Portugal. The project will be named Botafogo in honour of the eponymous 16th-century galleon.
