Hydropower industry will be foundation of energy balance in Latin America until 2030
GLOBAL ENERGY - Punta del Este (122)
Hydropower industry will be the foundation of the energy balance in Latin America until 2030, Gonzalo Casaravilla, professor of the Engineering Department of the Electric Engineering Institute with the University of the Republic of Uruguay and the ex-President of UTE said at the first conference of the Regional to Global cycle in Punta del Este (Uruguay).

“If we look at the entire Latin America, the statistics tell us that 60% of electricity in our countries is generated by the hydropower plants, 13% – by wind power plants, 6% – by solar power plants and the other energy sources account for 19-20%. This proportion will stay the same until 2030”, he said.

“These are the average metrics of our countries; sometimes, we separate Brazil, where the HPP share in the energy balance gets to 65%, while in Uruguay it makes only 13%”, the expert specified.
