Tanzania finalized the definition of the resource potential for the first LNG project in the country

The Ministry of Energy of Tanzania announced the finish of negotiations with Equinor and Shell about building the first liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in the country with USD 30 bn budget. The parties finalized the definition of the resource potential of the project: it will be based on blocks 1 and 4 of the continental shelf of Tanzania (with the overall gas reserves making 448 bcm), where the operator is Shell, as well as block 2 of 560 bcm currently developed by Equinor (operator) and ExxonMobil.

Australia launched commercial hydrogen generation at HESC project

Australian project “Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain” (HESC) has entered its commercial phase. The Green Innovations Foundation of the Japanese Government is to provide JPY 220 bn (USD 2.35 bn) to off-take hydrogen at the production site in Hastings port, which is part of HESC project. The supplied volumes will make 30 ktpa.

Spanish company X1 Wind announced the first electricity supply from the prototype of the floating wind turbine PLOCAN installed off the coast of the Canary Islands at 50 metres depth. Electricity is supplied into the smart micro-grid by a sub-sea 1.4 km cable connected to a 20 KV transformer.

Russian scientists developed new type of piezoelectric generators

Scientists from the Institute of nanotechnology, electronics and instrumentation engineering with the Southern Federal University (SFedU) created piezoelectric generators on the basis of nitrogen-alloyed carbon nanotubes transforming the vibrations of urban noise, human movements and talks into electricity. In future, such generators can become a source of stand-alone power supply for personal gadgets, such as watches, headsets and telephones.
