“Despite 40% growth of Moscow’s GDP, energy consumption is not even one percent higher: heat – 0%, electricity 0.4%, gas – minus 15%, water – minus 30%,” said S. Sobyanin. According to the Moscow Mayor, this is the result of thermal infrastructure modernisation as well as the generating systems upgrading, closure of inefficient coal-fired boiler houses, introduction of energy saving systems, etc.
“Maintaining and creating transport systems, in terms of energy delivery, generation and energy efficiency of consumers is the recipe for an excellent result. Today, despite the growth of the city, its economy, transport increase, I am confident that our city’s energy consumption is not going to increase,” the Mayor said.
Modernising and increasing the energy sector efficiency also improves the environmental situation in Moscow. “The city’s energy efficiency growth has resulted in reduction of CO2 emissions in Moscow, which have fallen by 2.3 times over the past 10 years, although it seems from the outside that nothing has changed and no revolutions have occurred in the energy sector,” he noted.
