“On the one hand, to provide Moscow with wind energy, the entire Central Federal District must be dotted with wind turbines, and all its population and wildlife must disappear. It is a completely futuristic story of the future no one needs, which is totally unacceptable for development of such agglomerations,” the mayor stressed addressing the session Creating the City of the Future moderated by Sergey Brilev, the President of the Global Energy Association.
“On the other hand, being the northernmost city in the world among such large cities as Sao Paulo or Los Angeles, Moscow climatic conditions significantly differ from theirs. Our winters are severe, and first of all, the city must be provided with heat in winter. Back in Soviet times, Moscow adopted a cogeneration system, when a powerful energy system generates both heat and electricity. Moscow will always consume and produce huge amounts of heat and electricity. Therefore, switching to alternative sources is simply irrational,” the Mayor noted.
