The Global Energy Association has been issuing Honorary Diplomas to foreign researchers starting from 2022. This initiative is meant to attract attention to the developments by the scientists from the emerging economies, which put into practice and provide solutions to the technological challenges in the energy sector.
“This is a great honour for us to deliver the second Honorary Diploma to the prominent scientist from Latin America. This is another step toward the triumph of science staying out of politics and the evidence of the great importance of the international dialogue for development of the research with big practical meaning both for separate regions, and all over the world”, Sergey Brilev remarked.
“For our university it is a great opportunity to receive approval from this important Association and the recognition by the state. I am endlessly grateful, because I always dreamed to give an impetus to the development of our sphere (nuclear reactors monitoring systems), so that people could have decent salaries and dive into the research of such kind. That is why we have chosen this remarkable course: both from the side of your organisation, and from the side of nuclear energy sector in general, and our university in particular. We will be working together”, Lescano said.
Vicente Lescano obtained his Doctoral Degree in 1983 in Cuyo National University in Argentina. He specialises in various aspects of nuclear power plants (NPPs) monitoring. Dr. Lescano developed the system for monitoring the conditions of nuclear reactors allowing to track the vibrations in the NPP structures and to obtain signals about equipment failures in the automatic mode. This research helped to improve the safety of operating the nuclear reactors in Argentina. Dr. Lescano’s merits were recognised by the National Commission of Argentina for Nuclear Energy, where he was employed until 2000. He is the author of dozens scientific publications and didactic materials.
The first foreign researcher to receive the Honorary Diploma was Luke Chika Eme from Nigeria, the Dean of the Engineering Department of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. Ruben Chaer, the Professor of the Republican University in Montevideo, the Head of the Electricity Market Office of Uruguay, was the second. In October 2023, the Honorary Diploma was issued to Ljubivoje Popovic of Serbia, the employee of the Electric Power Distribution Company of Belgrade.
