Taking part in the ceremony were Alexey Kulapin, Director General of the Russian Energy Agency of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Sergey Brilev, President of the Global Energy Association, and Roman Sakhartov, Deputy Head Department at Gazprom.
The third edition of the Young Scientist 4.0 programme, featuring the winners of Gazprom’s corporate programs, was launched in August 2023. The first stage of the programme consisted of master classes on public speaking, as well as lectures by leading energy researchers. During the second stage, the participants began working on video presentations based on their research projects, to be presented to the judge panel.
Based on the voting results, the three winners are as follows:
- Sergey Baklanov, head of the Engineering Support Division at Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk. Paper topic: “Development and implementation of innovative technology and equipment for manual arc welding of magnetized pipes by heteropolar square current pulses”;
- Anna Igoshina, grade 4 chemistry lab technician at Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk. Paper topic: “Localization of gas leaks from flange connections”;
- Ratibor Nezhnikov, grade 1 software engineer at the Astrakhan branch of Gazprom Inform. Paper topic: “Modeling of heterogeneous geological rocks using percolation theory.”
“The projects developed by this year’s winners seek to improve the efficiency of geological exploration, as well as gas transmission – key segments of the gas sector that make an important contribution to the development of the industry at large. I would like to congratulate my young colleagues. Today’s awards signify that your solutions are in demand, and I am certain that they will find practical application in the future,” noted Roman Sakhartov.
“The Russian Energy Agency annually monitors the Forecast of Scientific and Technological Development of Fuel and Energy Sectors and, taking into account its results, forecasts the personnel needs of the fuel and energy complex. We support competitions aimed at unlocking the potential of young professionals and improving their skills,” said Alexey Kulapin.
“A few years ago, the Global Energy Association and Gazprom relaunched the Young Scientist programme to help a new generation of researchers find widespread international recognition. In the modern world, the existence of a strong academic base and a high level of applied knowledge are far from the only components of success for a young specialist, which is why we have developed a programme that strengthens their self-presentation and public speaking skills, which will undoubtedly contribute to the further advancement of the young scientists,” emphasized Sergey Brilev.
The winners of the programme were assigned mentors from among leading industry professionals. They will also have an opportunity to publish a joint chapter in the next issue of the annual report “10 Breakthrough Ideas in Energy for the Next 10 Years”.
