According to the Statute of the Prize, self-nomination is not allowed. Possible candidates may be suggested by scientists, researchers and representatives of academic organisations ready to provide detailed justifications for the application, as well as a list of the candidate’s research papers and key merits.
“The Global Energy Prize is unique in that it encourages innovation in all energy sectors, regardless of energy trends. The applicants may include scientists involved in both improving the efficiency of fossil fuel use and reducing the cost of power generation from renewable energy sources. At the same time, the Prize pays special attention to new ways of using energy, which have not yet found wide application but will soon define trends in the world energy industry,” said Nobel laureate Rae Kwon Chung, Chairman of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee.
The call for applications represents the first stage of the annual nomination cycle. The submissions received will be brought before independent experts who will evaluate them according to a fixed set of criteria. The 15 best applications, five in each category, will be shortlisted and submitted to the International Award Committee, which will select the laureates in a closed meeting.
The names of the laureates will be announced at a special ceremony, which will take place in July 2024 in the city of Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan. As per tradition, the award ceremony will be part of the Russian Energy Week, an international forum to be held in Moscow from September 26 to 28, 2024.
