The government of Kenya has signed a number of agreements for construction of dams since 2013. The agreements total 700 billion Kenyan shillings (about $5.4 billion) as an open source data says. Among the largest projects under construction are the $630 million Thwake dam in southern Kenya and the Itare and Thiba dams in central Kenya, which will cost a total of $340 million. The projects implementation will increase fresh water availability. According to the World Health Organization, 28.5% of the Kenyans did not have access to safe water supply. in 2022.
“Water is the most important source for improvement of life quality. Kenya is open to working with all countries on water conservation,” summarised Irene Kemboi Moswan.
