The event will take place after a closed meeting of the International Award Committee, during which a vote will be held to determine the laureates in the following categories: Conventional Energy, Non-Conventional Energy and New Ways of Energy Application. The winners will be selected from a shortlist of 15 scientists (five candidates in each category) from 11 countries and territories: Belarus, China, Hong Kong (China), Japan, the Republic of Cyprus, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.
The ceremony will be the culmination of Global Energy’s three-day tour across the Volga, during which members of the International Committee will visit Volgograd State University and the Volzhskaya hydroelectric power plant (HPP).
“The Volgograd Region is an example of the synthesis of conventional and new energy. The Region is home to Europe’s largest hydroelectric power plant (Volzhskaya HPP), one of the oldest refineries in Russia (Volgograd Refinery) and the first liquefied natural gas production site in southern Russia. The Volgograd Region is also one of the six leading regions of the Russian Federation in terms of the installed capacity of wind and solar generators. This is why Volgograd is an excellent choice for announcing the names of the laureates,” said Sergey Brilev, President of the Global Energy Association.
“The announcement of the laureates is the final stage of the Global Energy Prize nomination cycle. At the first stage, from January 1 to April 19, 2024, more than fifty nominations were submitted from all over the world – Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and America. Received applications were assessed by independent experts according to a fixed set of criteria, including scientific novelty and practical value. In each category, five applications with the highest average scores were identified and included in the shortlist from which the International Committee will select the winners,” recalled Rae Kwon Chung, Nobel laureate, Chairman of the International Committee of the Global Energy Prize.
The Global Energy Prize award ceremony will be part of the Russian Energy Week, an international forum that will be held in Moscow from September 26 to 28, 2024.
