The Global Energy Prize laureate in the Non-Traditional Energy category for the foundational contributions spanning electrochemistry, batteries, fuel cells and molecular electronics.
Professor of chemistry in Cornell University.
Dr. Abruna was born on 8 November 1953 in Puerto-Rico. His research is dedicated to the new methods of increasing the productivity of fuel elements and batteries. For example, transmission electronic microscopy and differentiated electrochemical mass spectrometry, which already proved to be very efficient. The research team headed by Dr. Abruna is the leader in designing and developing Li/S batteries featuring high power density and lengthy life cycle. Dr. Abruna also developed the concept of symmetrical reduction-oxidation batteries, which opened new opportunities for storing big volumes of electricity.
