“In 2023, with two power units committed, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant supplied 28% of the country’s total electricity consumption. This year, our 9 month consumption amounted to 12.5 bn kWh, already exceeding the yearly figure of 2023,” V. Karankevich remarked.
“We are currently working to approach the target of covering 40% of domestic demand by nuclear power,” the vice-premier added.
According to V. Karankevich, electricity demand is driven up by the development of e-mobility.
“The country’s electric vehicle fleet is growing. Emphasis is placed on development of public transport systems that use domestically manufactured vehicles. A positive step in this direction is the implementation of two projects in the cities of Borisov and Shklov. In Shklov, the whole fleet was electrified, and the next iteration will be in the city of Novopolotsk,” V. Karankevich said.
