“Renewable technologies will approach maturity by 2050, and as early as in 2070’s we will face another energy revolution triggered by nuclear technology, however renewable energy and hydrogen will continue to be in use,” Minggao Ouyang said.
By that time, he believes, the share of electricity in global energy consumption well reach 70%, with another 20% provided by hydrogen energy.
“I absolutely agree. If we continue to use fossil fuels, there is no future for us. We will migrate towards renewables and nuclear industry,” Héctor D. Abruña added.
“Solar and wind generation will increase, but will still be insufficient given consumption growth. By that time all transport will be electrically powered, with gas remaining a transition fuel. So one way or another, we will rely on nuclear industry, and the role of nuclear power will be redefined,” the expert remarked.
