“Chinese companies will build in Azerbaijan six of eight scheduled solar and wind power plants, including the floating ones, fitted with advanced energy storage systems”, – says the Azertac state agency.
The respective agreements were signed during the visit to Peking by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
Thus, the Government of Azerbaijan and the Chinese Universal Energy signed an investment agreement on the construction of the 100 MW Gobustan solar plant.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and the Chinese China Energy Overseas Investment signed an agreement on assessment, development and construction in Azerbaijan of an offshore wind power plant.
Besides, SOCAR Green signed an agreement with the Chinese China Datang Overseas Investment on the implementation of a project on a 100 MW floating solar power plant with the 30 MW energy storage system on the Boyukshor lake in the vicinity of Baku.
At the same time an agreement was signed with PowerChina Resources on the implementation of a project on a 160 MW solar power plant, as well as a memorandum of understanding with China Datang Overseas Investment and PowerChina Resources related to the development of the 2 GW offshore wind power project in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Azerbaijan set the task of providing at least 32.6% of the generated power by means of RES. To this end, it is necessary to build at least 8 RES – power plants with the total capacity of about
2 GW. The national government made a reservation that it will engage foreign investors to implement these projects.
