The 2025 Global Energy Prize laureate in the Traditional Energy category for the development of advanced extra/ultra-high voltage power transmission technologies

Chair of High Voltage Engineering Research Institute, Chief scientist of the State Key Laboratory of Power Systems, Chang Jiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education of China, Tsinghua University

Prof. He received his B.S., M.S., and PhD (all in Electrical Engineering) in Wuhan University, Chongqing University, and Tsinghua University respectively. He has been working for Tsinghua University for over 30 years, rising from a lecturer to the head of High Voltage Engineering Research Institute and the chief scientist of the State Key Laboratory of Power Systems. He was also a Visiting Scientist in Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, South Korea, in 1997-1998. Prof. He’s main research interest lies in the sphere of advanced power transmission technology, including electromagnetic transient protection of extra/ultra-high voltage transmission systems, and advanced underground power transmission technologies. Based on his research, he has made about 150 invention patents, published 9 academic monographs, and 2 textbooks, and about 920 academic papers. Prof. He is a Foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna, Italy, a CIGRE Fellow, and IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. Throughout his career, he received a large number of domestic and international awards including the Richard R. Stoddard Award for Outstanding Performance, IEEE Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and Distribution Award, Hoshino Prize, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize, China National Award for Scientific and Technological Progress and many more.
