Sergey Brilev, President of the Global Energy Association, has been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). The ceremony took place at SPbPU, where a diploma and an academic gown (the chief attribute of the honoris causa title) were presented by Andrey Rudskoi, SPbPU Rector and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Mr. Brilev and Polytechnic University have a long history of collaboration. For instance, it was at the initiative of Sergey Borisovich that Polytechnic University, jointly with the Global Energy Association on development of international research and projects in the field of energy, started publishing a journal of the same name, covering a broad range of topics in the field of technical sciences,” Andrey Rudskoi said.
“We are deeply grateful to SPbPU and its Rector, Andrey Rudskoi. There are very few places where, whenever you step across the threshold, you cannot believe it’s happening to you. Polytechnic University is certainly one of those places. It is much more than a university; it is a monument to the glorious history of science and a portal to a future that is already emerging. It is here that outstanding research is being conducted and new generations of scientists are being trained. We will definitely continue our close collaboration with the university.” Sergey Brilev said.
Under the leadership of Sergey Brilev, the Global Energy Association has been actively expanding its presence in the scientific and academic communities. However, Mr. Brilev and his team consider the considerable increase in the number of submissions and participating countries for the Global Energy Prize to be their greatest achievement. In 2025, the contest received 90 submissions from 44 countries and territories, an all-time high for the Prize and a clear sign of its growing role in the global energy community.
