The Central European Regional Support Committee is established!
The Central European Regional Support Committee of the Global Energy Prize was established in Frankfurt, Germany. The first meeting of an initiative group on its creation took place today, on the 15th of January. The event’s participants decided to join Committee that will operate in Central Europe.
As a recall, the first national Global Energy Prize Support Committee – the Scandinavian – was established in June 2014. The aim of creation of such structures is the promotion of the Global Energy Prize around the world and increase in the quantity and quality of nominations. Thus, the Committee members have the unique right to nominate for the Global Energy Prize. They can recommend individuals for inclusion into the pool of nominating persons. They are eligible for recommendation of experts that will be involved into the nominations evaluation. And last, but not least, they are answerable for the Global Energy Prize’ information dissemination.
The idea of creation of the Central European Support Committee belongs to the 2005 Global Energy Prize laureate Klaus Riedle. Due to his initiative and incredible groundwork GEP’s team, members of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee and renowned energy experts of Central Europe met today to discuss the mechanisms of future cooperation.
Addressing the event’s participants, the Partnership’s President Igor Lobovsky thanked Klaus Riedle for having such a devotion to the Global Energy Prize and for the tremendous groundwork thanks to which the meeting became reality. He also expressed appreciation to the 2007 Global Energy Prize laureate, professor Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson (Iceland) who is a Chairman of the Scandinavian Regional Support Committee. Thus, he said: “Due to Mr. Sigfusson’s pioneer experience the national committee’s network will be widespread globally.”
Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson noted in return that the Global Energy Prize is the voice for energy research in the world!
Igor Lobovsky also expressed his confidence on the success of cooperation. Thus, he said: “In the 13th nomination cycle of 2014-2015 we have received nominations for the Prize twice the amount we had before. That’s amazing news itself. But I am sure that the amount we will get in the 14th nomination cycle will be even more, due to the active work of the Central Europe Regional Support Committee. As a President of the “Global Energy” Partnership, I assure you that GEP’s founders will fully support our regional committees. We are certain on their effectiveness and sincerely happy to establish new ones.”
