RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The main event of the GEP is due in two weeks!

The 13th solemn Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony will be held exactly in two weeks, on June 19th.  Professor Shuji Nakamura and Professor Jayant Baliga, who are being recognized this year, have made revolutionary inventions that were commercialized and have helped the whole humankind achieve an incredible economic effect.  The 2015 laureates will be awarded by the President of Russia and will get an endowment sum of $ 33 mln.

Traditionally within the laureate’s week of the GEP and prior to the Award Ceremony, the “Global Energy”, Non-profit Partnership holds a number of events for the GEP laureates, young scientists and leading energy experts.

This year exiting circle of events will be opened by the annual scientific symposium “Energy of thought” that will take place on June 16th at the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI. Our 2015 laureates – Shuji Nakamura and Jayant Baliga - will deliver their speeches there. And the 2013 winners of “The Energy of Youth” program will present their scientific projects; each of them opens new possibilities for the energy field and has great practical application.

On June, 17th the TASS press-conference “Innovations in energy-efficiency and energy-saving in Russia” will be held with the participation of 2015 GEP laureates and young scientists. Jayant Baliga and Shuji Nakamura will present before Russian journalists for the first time and will share their unique experience on commercialization of scientific research. This topic is especially pivotal for Russian young scientists who strive to use in practice their innovative technological breakthroughs. The “Energy of Youth” winners will present the results of their projects that they have managed to achieve after the grants. The press-conference program also includes the Q&A session during which the participants will share their view on energy field development in Russia and globally.

Also on June 17th, the “Global Energy” delegation and the GEP laureates will visit the largest manufacturer of equipment for power generation - power engineering company OJSC "Power Machines".

On June 18th, press-conference “The global 21 century energy trends” will be held at press-centre of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The 2015 GEP laureates will tell about the innovative projects and scientific research in the energy field as well as will assess the global energy trends and forecast the way of their development in 2015.

The cycle of events will be closed by the solemn reception in honor of the 2015 laureates on June, 19th. It will take place at the A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications.
