The Global Laureate is a Game Changer

The 2015 Global Energy Prize laureate, Shuji Nakamura, has received Asia’s Society Game Changer Award. This is the latest acknowledgment in his stream of honors that was given to him at United Nations Plaza, New York City.

Who are those “game changers”? According to Asia’s Society – these are innovators whose contribution to society is so huge it causes everyone to rethink how things could be done, from how we conduct our daily lives to how we solve our biggest problems.

Shuji Nakamura is awarded for lightening our world in a groundbreaking and sustainable way.  His bright blue LED has proved to be game-changing on a global scale: innovation lead to the creation of the white LED and the ability to reduce energy consumption and conserve the Earth’s resources.

Lighting accounts for one-fourth of the world’s electricity consumption, and LED technology provides affordable sustainable source of light for millions around the world with little or no access to electricity grids. Today the technology is ubiquitous, from TVs and cellphone displays to street and interior lighting.

“- It is rewarding and comforting to see just how far the invention of the blue LED has gone to drastically improve the quality of life for individuals in Asia and to aid Asia in reducing their electrical energy consumption, - underlines Mr. Nakamura upon receiving the award.
