The outgoing year 2016 turned out to be the year of breakthroughs for the Global Energy Association and the same-named international energy award. The project has more vividly approved itself in the energy world, having strengthened its status as the center of attraction to many brilliant minds of the industry from various countries of the world. The breakthrough has been accomplished in several areas, including quantity and quality of the organized events, accepted nomination applications, development and launch of the new nominating platform, as well as numerous awards given to the Global Energy programs this year.

The first stage of the XV nomination cycle – application for the Global Energy Prize – has been closed today, on December 20. The world’s best experts of the energy world for almost three months have been offering candidacies of the Global Energy Prize 2017 potential laureates. The names of the Prize laureates will be announced in April, 2017.
The Global Energy Prize has been acknowledged one of the leaders, according to Global Event Awards 2016. The solemn awarding ceremony took the second place for the best decoration settings. This year 84 projects from 12 countries (CIS and Baltic region) competed for the Global Event Awards.
In less than two weeks the application period for the Global Energy Prize closes. On November 24 the Global Energy Prize laureate 2005 Klaus Riedle (Germany) delivered a lecture at Moscow school №1374 and the main building of Moscow State Institute of International Relations. On November 24 the members of the “Global Energy” Association Board of Trustees – Russian minister of energy Alexander Novak and chairman of board of directors at FGC UES, one of the Association members, Andrey Murov, along with the member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee and the expert committee, which contributed to the reports of the IPCC awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, Rae Kwon Chung awarded the winners of the XIII All-Russian contest of youth scientific projects in the field of energy “The Energy of Youth”. The scientific teams from Tomsk, Saint Petersburg and Krasnoyarsk received RUB 3 mln for their further research. Each grant amounted to RUB 1 mln they will use for innovations development that will improve energy systems’ effectiveness, enhance hydroelectric power stations’ capacity and help to save energy.
The Global Energy Prize Summit’2016 took place in Moscow on November 23. It united the world-famous scientists and leading experts from 6 countries for a polemic discussion on the topic "Stress scenario of the world energy development". This was the key event of the V International forum on energy efficiency and energy development ENES 2016. The Global Energy Prize laureates and the members of the International Award Committee while trying to predict the future of the industry came to the conclusion that the new energy paradigm and new technologies are the best response to contemporary challenges.
