The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The Rugrids-Electro participants to “build” a smart city with the help of “The Energy of Youth” winner Ivan Matsak

On October 18th Ivan Matsak, the head of the research group at JSC S. P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation “Energia”, the winner of “The Energy of Youth” - 2015 will take part in the panel discussion “Smart city” in the framework of the international electric power forum “Rugrids-Electro”. Participants of this discussion will find out the way to transform an ordinary city into a smart one by means of rational distribution of resources, technology and energy.

The research group from Korolev led by Ivan Matsak won the All-Russian contest “The Energy of Youth” in 2015. The young scientists work on a remote power supply of the aircrafts and robotic devices with the infrared light on the ground and in the space. Today the unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, are already used everywhere: starting from the delivery of goods from online stores to the filming industry, movies, stories, and even restaurant delivery service. Ivan’s speech at the panel discussion will be devoted to this innovation. Special emphasis the scientist will put on the use of the unmanned aerial vehicle for the purpose of the extended objects monitoring.

“The Energy of Youth” winner will tell how the unmanned aerial vehicles help to enhance reliability and safety of difficult-to-access objects, to prevent accidents and lower cost of the accident response. Ivan Matsak will also share with the audience the latest achievements in the area of drone’s power supply. This research area seems to be of great importance, as despite all evident advantages of drones, their significant disadvantage is limited time of functioning.

Among other issues to be discussed during the panel discussion are the smart cities development in Russia, the future of intellectual transport in Russia, 3-D models of energy objects and many other.

To remind, the All-Russian contest of youth scientific projects “The Energy of Youth” is held annually among 35-year-old-scientists. The winners are determined by the independent experts from The Commission of Experts of the Global Energy Prize. The necessary conditions for the victory are the practical application of the technology and possibility for its commercialization. Application period lasts from September 1st to October 15th.

The panel discussion will take place at the press-room (13 00).
