The short list of the nominees for the Global Energy Prize was announced today, May 25, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2018). Within the framework of the panel session ‘Science is doing what politics cannot do’ Rae Kwon Chung (Korea), the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member, unveiled the top 10 of candidates. Among the possible winners of the award, which recognizes annually breakthrough technologies in the field of energy from all over the world, are the world's leading scientists. They represent Australia, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and the USA. The laureates of the Global Energy Prize will be announced on June 6, 2018 during the official press conference in Moscow.
On the second day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the delegation of the Global Energy Prize led a discussion with Nobuo Tanaka, Chairman of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.
Adnan Amin (UAE), member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will give a lecture within the framework of the Energy of Knowledge program of the Global Energy Association at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). The theme of the lecture is “Global Energy Transformation: A Roadmap to 2050”, initiated by IRENA. Starting at 16.30 (lecture hall TBC).
Rae Kwon Chung, Steven Griffiths and Thomas Blees, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee members, will give a lecture on the actual global energy issues at National Research University MPEI on June 6, 2018. A series of their speeches will be held within the framework of the Energy of Knowledge program of the Global Energy Association. Starting at 10 a.m.
The Global Energy Association and Euronews TV channel signed a new agreement of cooperation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on May 24, 2018. It concerns strengthening the current international media partnership between the parties.
On May 24, 2018 the Global Energy Association started the first day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with a business meeting along with its colleagues from the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). During the negotiations, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergeev Alexander and the acting president of the Global Energy Association Ignatov Alexander discussed the prospects for cooperation and further signing of a partnership agreement.
The 2018 Energy of Education award will acknowledge the best universities of Russia and the CIS for superior organization of qualifying stages of the Fifth CASE-IN International Engineering Championship. Supporting the efforts of universities in the preparation of a new generation of engineers from Russia and the CIS, the organizing committee of the Championship alongside with the Global Energy Association established a special award the Energy of Education in 2013.
Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the round table "Russia-Italy" and the session "Italian technologies for a new quality of life" are scheduled with the participation of the former Minister of Education of Italy, the Global Energy Prize expert Francesco Profumo.
The names of new laureates of an international award - The Global Energy Prize – will be announced in TASS press center on June 6, 2018. The award annually acknowledges breakthrough achievements in the energy field, which help humanity to solve the most serious energy issues. During the solemn ceremony which will be held in the framework of the Russian Energy Week International Forum, the new laureates will receive golden medals, diplomas, honorary lapel badges and will share RUB 39 000 000 (approximately $ 650 000).

The Energy of Words aims to reward those who have written an illuminating story on the energy challenges faced worldwide or on any scientific innovation which provides new energy efficiencies.
