Nobuo Tanaka might become a new member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee
On the second day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the delegation of the Global Energy Prize led a discussion with Nobuo Tanaka, Chairman of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.
During the discussion Rae Kwon Chung, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member, told Mr. Tanaka about the mission and opportunities of the award, highlighting the role of the Global Energy Prize in popularizing scientific knowledge, supporting advanced solutions to global energy issues, and creating discussion platforms for the global energy community. In addition, Rae Kwon Chung mentioned that in different years the laureates of the Global Energy Prize became representatives from Japan, and that the impact of these scientists is very important for the world community.
At the end of the discussion Rae Kwon Chung stressed that while being the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member he invited Mr. Tanaka to consider the possibility of joining the Committee. Each year 20 experts from 13 countries choose new winners of the Global Energy Prize. In hid turn, Nobuo Tanaka mentioned that he considers the initiatives of the award humanistic and progressive and that he would be glad to have an opportunity of cooperation in the future.
As a recall, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee meeting will be held in Moscow on June 5, 2018. And two days later, on June 7, the names of the Global Energy Prize laureates will be announced during a press conference at the TASS press center. The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee consists of the heads of the most authoritative scientific organizations, prominent scientists who have achieved international recognition in the field of energy, state and public figures.
