According to IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence, the Global Energy Prize ranks TOP-99 of the prestigious and significant international awards and is the only award from Russia included in this list.
Entries must be submitted until July 27, 2018 via the Global Energy Association website. The Energy of Words aims to reward those who have written an illuminating story on the energy challenges faced worldwide or on any scientific innovation which provides new energy efficiencies. Journalists from all over the world are invited to take part in the contest.
The Global Energy Association and the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) held talks, discussing prospective directions of cooperation. The parties agreed on signing a partnership agreement, entrance the Global Energy Association in the membership of GEIDCO and development of joint initiatives’ implementation program.
A discussion on the results of the partnership between Klaus Riedle’s Foundation, the National Research University “MPEI”, the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and Siemens was held within an academic colloquium at MPEI. The Global Energy Association headed by Alexander Ignatov, acting President of the Global Energy Association, took part in the discussion as well.
Rae Kwon Chung, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member, UN Secretary-General`s High-level Expert and Leaders Panel (HELP) on water and disasters, Adviser to the Chair, is convinced that the Silk Road Super Grid is up to solve the problem of the energy shortage of underdeveloped countries, HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology can transmit electricity over 6,000 kms.
Adnan Amin (UAE), member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) gave a lecture within the framework of the Energy of Knowledge program of the Global Energy Association at Moscow State Institute of International Relations. He presented the report “Global Energy Transformation: A Roadmap to 2050”, initiated by IRENA.
Rae Kwon Chung, Steven Griffiths and Thomas Blees, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee members, gave a lecture on the actual global energy issues within the framework of the Energy of Knowledge program at National Research University MPEI on June 6, 2018.
The names of the Global Energy Prize laureates were announced during the official press conference in Moscow on June 6. In 2018, the prestigious award goes to scientists from Russia and Australia. Russian academician Sergey Alekseenko will be awarded for developments in the field of heat power engineering, which allow creating modern energy-saving equipment while Professor Martin Green will be recognized for technologies in photovoltaics increasing cost effectiveness and efficiency of solar cells. The solemn Award Ceremony will be held in October within the framework of the Russian Energy Week International Forum. The laureates of 2018 will receive golden medals, diplomas, honorary lapel badges and will share RUB 39 000 000 (approximately $ 650 000).
The final of the VI International Engineering Championship CASE-IN, which brought together 500 students from 55 technical universities of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic, was completed in Moscow.
