The structure of world energy will be radically changed in the coming decades as a result of the displacement of coal and its replacement by carbon-free energy sources, mentioned the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate Sergey Alekseenko. The expert delivered a report on the prospects for the development of geo-and petrothermal energy in the context of thermophysical issues at the plenary session at the Seventh Russian National Conference on Heat Exchange.
Martin Green, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate, Professor of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), gave a lecture at the Odintsovo branch of MGIMO University. The expert told about the research for which he was awarded, and about the current trends in solar energy. The lecture was held within the framework of the Energy of Knowledge program of the Global Energy Association.
Within the framework of the Global Energy Prize Laureates’ Week, there was organized a scientific and practical symposium The Energy of Thought. During the event, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureates, along with other experts, appreciated the presentations of scientific research by young scientists. Within the framework of the youth day of Russian Energy Week, the Global Energy Association organized the Young Scientist 4.0 educational event.An educational film about the rules and errors of the projects’ presentation was shown at the Global Energy Association’s booth. Then, all participants received a methodological guide for developing communication and self-presentation skills.
On October 6, 2018 on the youth day of the Russian Energy Week Forum, the Global Energy Association organized a "Shirt-sleeve” meeting of the the Global Energy Prize laureates the BRICS YEA youth.
The Global Energy Association is expanding the range of its initiatives in order to promote the development of energy industry. Within the framework of the REW-2018, the Global Energy Association signed cooperation agreements with the National Research University "MPEI", Moscow Technological Institute (MTI) and BRICS YEA.
On October 4, within the Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony, the winner of of The Energy of Words International Media Contest Jeff Dembicki, a Canadian journalist for a number ofperiodicals, such as Foreign Policy, The Guardian, Vice, was awarded. His article “The Convenient Disappearance of Climate Change Denial in China. From Western plot to the party line, how China embraced climate science to become a green-energy powerhouse” was named the best in The Energy of Words-2018 contest for its analytical approach, the depth of the research topic and literary skills. The award was presented to him by Rodney John Allam (UK), The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee Chairman, Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
On October 4, within the Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony, Alexey Trinchenko, winner of the IV All-Russian contest of implemented innovative projects in the field of energy, The Energy of Breakthrough, was awarded. A young scientist from St Petersburg Alexey Trinchenko received an award in the amount of one million rubles for providing a scientific base for the efficiency of reducing the number of harmful substances during the combustion of solid fuel (coal, peat, oil shale) and increasing the reliability of furnaces and boilers at thermal electric power plants.The winner was awarded by Oleg Favorsky, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate.
After the Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony the Energy of Inspiration was awarded to the spouses of the laureates: Mrs. Judith Green and Mrs. Bela Alekseenko.
On October 4, the Global Energy Association held a panel session Energy of the Future: the Three Factors of Sustainable Development at the Russian Energy Week international forum. The heads of international organizations and leading scientists of the world determined how the introduction of digital technologies and the transition to low-carbon fuel systems has affected the development of the global fuel and energy complex, and also revealed new ways of using energy that will cover the growing demand for energy resources.
Today, on October 4, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak awarded prestigious and lucrative world science award, the 2018 Global Energy Prize, to Russian Academician Sergey Alekseenko and Australian professor Martin Green. The prize annually honors outstanding research that impacts live across the planet and provides technology addressing energy challenges.
In the framework of the international forum “Russian Energy Week” an important event for the Global Energy Association was the presentation of the book entitled “The Global Energy Prize: tribute to those who changed the world”, which was published on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of our Prize. The book includes 35 chapters about the life and achievements of our laureates.
The Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony will take place on October 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Russian Energy Week forum. This year, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak will grant the award to scientists from Russia and Australia: Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Alekseenko and Professor Martin Green from Australia.

Within October 2 – 6, 2018 the 16th Global Energy Prize Laureates’ Week will be held in Moscow for the first time. Each year, the Global Energy Association holds a number of events with the participation of laureates, the International Award Committee members, young promising scientists and leading experts in the energy industry.
