WFES – 2019: The Global Energy Association’s visit to Khalifa University
On January 16, within the business trip to the World Future Energy Summit 2019 (Abu Dhabi, UAE), the Global Energy Association’s delegation made a visit to Khalifa University to discuss the terms of partnership with the University.
Khalifa University is the world recognized research center that is engaged in the development of the knowledge-intensive industry, it actively expands the international partners’ network and the program for innovations advance in the UAE and the region in general. The higher educational establishment is also known as the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR) and includes the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI) and the Petroleum Institute (PI). These institutions are combined into one world-class, research-intensive institution perfectly uniting research and education to produce world leaders and critical thinkers in applied science and engineering.
Khalifa University comes in top place among research intensive universities of the 21st century, while accelerating the growth of Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s rapidly developing knowledge economy.
Specialized research centers are created at Khalifa University to support effective scientific work. Hatem Zein el-din, Professor of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, showed the Global Energy Association’s delegation the possibilities of a laboratory of the University. In general, the list of research activity of the University includes the following areas: energy storage and energy efficiency, space technologies (-developing effective satellites), nuclear research, smart grids and microgrids, etc.
After the presentation of the main projects and programs of the Global Energy Association, the parties discussed the possibility of conducting the lectures and roundtables of the Global Energy Prize laureates and members of the International Award Committee for the students of Khalifa University. The parties also discussed the possibility of students’ and research associates’ involvement in youth programs of the Global Energy Association, and conducting joint workshops.
Recall that the World Future Energy Summit 2019 (WFES) takes place annually in the capital of the United Arab Emirates the UAE), Abu Dhabi. It unites world leaders of the energy industry, CEOs of large corporations, industry experts, investors and executives for discussion global energy issues. Every year the World Future Energy Summit attracts more than 33 000 visitors from more than 175 countries and 850 corporate exhibitors. The agenda of this year is devoted to topical issues of renewables and energy efficiency.
