The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.


Vice-chairman of the World Energy Council Oleg Budargin became Chairman of the Global Energy Association Board of Trustees. The relevant decision was made by Board of Trustees’s general meeting.

Recall that staff of this collegial management body is formed among the Association`s members and well-known experts who have made a significant contribution to the development of the energy industry. Oleg Budargin has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2010. The decision to elect him as a Chairman for a term of 5 years was adopted by common consent.

The Board of Trustees has supervisory powers over the Global Energy Association`s activities and has the right to make recommendations to the General meeting and to formulate strategies for the selection of priority areas for the annual Prizes. Also, the Board of Trustees` range of competencies includes implementation of the inspection and analysis of applicants` works for the prizes, awards, nominations, established by the Association; reviewing and providing recommendations on the list of nominators; participation, organization and promotion of public actions dedicated to the association`s projects and dissemination of information about the association's programs, members of the association and the role of the association's projects in solving various scientific and practical problems.

"Now the science`s responsibility for the world`s future is more important than ever. And the most important discoveries are those that have an impact on improving the quality of life anywhere in the world. The Global Energy Prize, organized by our Association, meets modern technological and scientific challenges in the field of energy. It was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2002 for this purpose. Of course there is a considerable work on the Prize`s development and the involvement of a wide range of new generation of scientists in the project. I fully share the values, of the Global Energy Association and its agenda and hope that my work as Chairman of the Association`s Board of Trustees will be constructive and productive," Oleg Budargin commented his appointment.

Oleg Budargin is a well-known Russian Manager, Vice-Chairman of the World Energy Council (WEC), Vice-Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO). From 2013 to 2017, he held the position of Director General of Rosseti, Public Joint Stock Company (PJSC ROSSETI). From 2009 to 2013 he was elected Chairman of the Management Board of FGC UES, PJSC. From 2000 to 2003 - Mayor of Norilsk. In January 2003, he was elected Governor of Taymyr (Dolgan-Nenets) Autonomous Region. In 2012, he received the title of Honored Power Engineer of the Russian Federation. Winner of the Russian Federation’s Government Prize in the field of science and technology (2013).
