The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.


The nomination submissions for the 2019 Global Energy Prize will be accepted till March, 20 on the official website. Self-nomination for the Prize is not allowed.The names of new laureates will be announced on May 30, 2019.

The Global Energy Prize laureates can become scientists from any country of the world, authors of outstanding research and development, whose discoveries and technological innovations help to solve the most acute energy problems. The right to nominate candidates for the Prize have well-known scientists in the world, among them are the Global Energy Prize laureates, laureates of the Nobel Prize, winners of the prizes of Kyoto, Max Planck, Wolf, Balzan, and Zayed Prizes, Energy Globe, Goldman Environment, UNEP Sasakawa Prize, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of foreign academies of sciences, scientists or organizations invited by the Association to join the nomination pool. In addition, energy experts can send an application to join the nomination pool. After evaluation and approval by the Global Energy Association, they are given the right to nominate their candidate. To join the pool of nominees, you must fill out a special form on the Global Energy Association`s website. The nomination process is strictly confidential. Each application is evaluated by three independent international experts. Scientists who were nominated in the period from December 1, 2018 to March 20, 2019 are taking part in the nomination process. The final decision on the laureates determination is made by the International Award Committee, which consists of 20 authoritative experts from 14 countries.

Since 2019 the Global Energy Prize will be awarded in 3 categories: "Traditional energy", "Non-Traditional energy" and "New ways of  energy application". "The decision to allocate separate nominations was made  due to the fact that it is important for us to show the directions of scientific research and development of technologies in all major areas of energy. I am convinced that this decision will have a positive impact on the Prize’s nomination process and will be appreciated by the expert community. Moreover, the impartial process of selecting the Global Energy Prize laureates is recognized at the international level," said the acting President of the Global Energy Association Alexander Ignatov.

Recall that the International Congress of Distinguished Awards (ICDA) recognized the Global Energy Prize as a Mega-Award for transparent nomination process, independent expertise and impartial jury. In the ICDA prestige rating the Global Energy Prize is in the category of “Mega Awards” for its laudable goals, exemplary practices and the overall prize fund. According to IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence, the Global Energy Prize is one of the TOP-99 international academic awards with the highest prestige and significance.
