RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The Global Energy Prize is an international award celebrating outstanding scientific innovation in global energy research in the context of environmental challenges. The VIII Global Energy Prize Summit will bring together former prize-winners, members of its International Award Committee, politicians and industry experts from 13 countries. The Summit will take place at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, on April 10th , 2019. Under the heading “Energy in the new technological cycle” industry experts will meet to discuss the most pressing energy and climate challenges of today. Within the framework of this topic, a panel session and several round tables will be held at the Summit.

Watch the live broadcast of the VIII Global Energy Prize Summit in English, in German, in Russian. The live broadcast will start on April 10th at 09.30 a.m. (German time). 

The Summit speakers will discuss key topics of the future energy, including obstacles preventing transition to a new technological cycle, the impact of the technological revolution on the energy sector, environmental, economic and social aspects of achieving sustainable energy, the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on the energy sector, etc.

Some of the main speakers are

Rodney John Allam, The 2012 Global Energy Prize laureate, Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Inventor of the Allam power cycle which allows generating low-cost power from carbon-based fuels without emissions.

Adnan Amin, Member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee; Director-general Emeritus of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Sergey Alekseenko, The 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate, Head of Thermophysics at the Russian Academy of Sciences, renowned expert in thermal power engineering and heat transfer systems, enhancing resource potential for mankind.

Marta Szigeti Bonifert, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Hungarian Business Leaders Forum (HBLF), Board Member, Environment and Sustainability WS Leader, Advisor to AGROINNOVA/University of Turin Scientific Committee.

Oleg Budargin, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee Chairman,Vice-chairman of the World Energy Council; vice-chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO).

Rae Kwon Chung, The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; UN Secretary-General’s High-level Expert and Leaders Panel (HELP) on water and disasters, Adviser to the Chair; Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Xiansheng Sun, Member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee; Secretary General of the International Energy Forum reporting directly to the Chinese leadership on energy policy including on energy security, “3E” (Energy, Environment, Economy) program, low-carbon energy mix optimization.

Thomas Albert Blees, President of the Science Council for Global Initiatives, an NGO that unites climatologists, scientists, and engineers involved in cutting-edge energy systems and climate research. Author of the popular book “Prescription for the Planet - The Painless Remedy for Our Energy & Environmental Crises” (2008).

Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson, the 2007 Global Energy Prize laureate, Director General of the Innovation Center of Iceland.
