RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The Global Energy Prize worth around $ 600 000 goes to scientists from USA and Denmark

The names of the Global Energy Prize laureates were announced during the official press conference in Moscow. In 2019, the prestigious award goes to scientists from the USA and Denmark. Khalil Amine, Argonne Distinguished Fellow and the Manager of the Advanced Lithium Battery Technology Group at Argonne National Laboratory, will be awarded for outstanding contribution into the development of the efficient electrical energy storage technology. Danish Professor Frede Blaabjerg, Head of Aalborg University’s Center of reliable power electronics, will be recognized for outstanding technical contribution to the design of power management systems enabling the integration of renewable power. The laureates of 2019 will receive golden medals, diplomas, honorary lapel badges and will share around $ 600 000.

“The causes of the global climate change, related to the anthropogenic impact, need to be scientifically researched and proved,” confidently said laureate of the 2018 Global Energy Prize Sergey Alekseenko. At the panel discussion “Ratification of the Paris Agreement in Russia: Potential Impact on RES Sector Development” of the ARWE 2019 International Forum on Renewable Energy, the expert spoke on the structure of global energy consumption in implementing the Paris climate deal, the trends in the global energy industry and prospects for the development of renewable energy in Russia and in the world.

On May 22, Sergey Alekseenko, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will speak at the ARWE 2019 International Forum on Renewable Energy. At the panel discussion “Ratification of the Paris Agreement in Russia: Potential Impact on RES Sector Development”, which will be held in the first day of the forum, the scientist will consider the structure of global energy consumption in implementing the Paris climate deal and the prospects for the development of renewable energy in Russia and in the world. The event will be held in the Plenary Hall at 16.10.

The Global Energy Association represents the top-15 candidates who were included in the short list of candidates for the Global Energy Prize this year. The stuff of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee renewed

The Global Energy Association has rotated and approved a new membership of the International Award Committee. Thus, the new stuff of the International Award Committee was formed by 20 well-known scientists from 14 countries. British scientist Rodney Allam as Chairman of the International Award Committee was replaced by Rae Kwon Chung, UN Secretary-General`s High-level Expert and Leaders Panel (HELP) on water and disasters, Adviser to the Chair; Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
