The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

Trilateral meeting between the Global Energy Association, MGRI and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences at SPIEF-2019

On June 7, 2019, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Global Energy Association held a meeting with Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Moscow State Geological Prospecting University named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze. The parties discussed the possibility of joint projects and promotion of common initiatives.

In particular, representatives of MGRI – rector of the University Kasyanov Vadim and Vice-rector Koval Alexander – interested in the practical application of the development of the Global Energy Prize laureate Rodney John Allam, the so-called "Allam cycle". They offered the scientist to head a new laboratory at MGRI. The scientist promised to consider the possibility to join the Council of the laboratory.

Recall that Partner of 8 Rivers Capital, LLC. Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, Rodney John Allam is the developer of the "Allam cycle", which is the processing of hydrocarbon fuel into mechanical energy while capturing carbon dioxide and water generated during the process. This technology allows to obtain inexpensive energy from hydrocarbon fuel without harmful atmospheric emissions. An additional advantage is the low cost of electricity production, comparable to the cost of electricity generation by other modern gas turbines: about 6 cents per kilowatt-hour.

In addition, the Global Energy Association hold negotiations with the delegation of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Noting the importance of the development of scientific cooperation in solving global energy problems, the parties discussed the possibility of developing information partnership, work on a common expert base and the development of joint initiatives.
